Capper Line Feed Chute Alignment Using Portable CMM

Proctor and Gamble contracted with DP Hill Manufacturing Company to upgrade the liquid container capping lines in their Kansas City Plant.  The KC plant was experiencing jamming problems with the new cap design and the engineer at DP Hill knew that he needed an accurate alignment to resolve the problem.  David Hill, owner and chief engineer, contacted BC Engineering and Design to assist his company by providing accurate measurement and alignment services on the three capping lines at the KC plant.

After only a few hours on site with the equipment, Brian Christiano, P.E., owner and chief engineer, was able to discover the source of the trouble—the feeder chutes for all three capping lines were misaligned with the feeder centerline.  The misalignment was causing twisting and distortion of the feeder chutes.

Provided with the accurate measurement data, DP Hill was able to adjust and redesign the chutes so that the caps fed properly into the capper unit.  Problem solved; downtime eliminated.
