Reverse Engineering of Humvee Chassis and Interior Spatial Clearances

AMTI Corporation was tasked to retrofit stock HUMVEE military vehicles with the design, fabrication, and testing of augment communications and tactical equipment interfaces in support of the US military forces. The job was complicated by the requirement to use only pre-existing vehicle connection points and geometric features without modification, and further complicated by the lack of any useful dimensional drawings or specifications. AMTI received two complete HUMVEE vehicles from the manufacturer for this project.
After measuring both vehicles in several sections with a portable precision CMM (FARO® arm), BC Engineering and Design developed precisely measured 3-D model files of the entire assembly including interior and exterior features.
